Medical visa for India from Bangladesh

The free e-Medical visa cannot be used to enter by land
An e-Visa is only valid at designated airports and seaports. If you plan to cross overland at Benapole/Haridaspur or Gede — as many patients from Bangladesh do — you must use the paper MED visa with the correct route endorsement, not the e-Medical visa.
Which visa you can apply for
Bangladesh is on India's e-Visa eligible list, so you may apply online for an e-Medical visa — or use the paper Medical (MED) visa if it suits your route better.
Processing time
Indian missions require a minimum of three working days. For the e-Medical visa, apply at least 4 days before travel and pay the fee at least 4 days before travel.
Validity
Paper MED visa: up to one year or the period of treatment, whichever is less, extendable by a further year on production of a medical report. For the e-Medical visa the official portal contradicts itself — the category table says 365 days from arrival, its own FAQ says 60 days. Confirm on your grant letter.

Medical attendant visa
Bangladesh is the only country allowed THREE medical attendants on the paper Medical Attendant (MED-X) visa, free of charge, co-terminus with the patient's visa. Important: if you use the e-Visa route instead, the limit drops to TWO.
Vaccination certificates
Bangladesh is not on India's yellow fever endemic list and not on the polio-affected list, so neither certificate is required.
Documents you need
As published by High Commission of India, Dhaka. Missing any one of these is the most common reason a medical visa application is rejected.

- 4Proof of residence — electricity, gas or landline bill not less than 6 months old
- 5Proof of funds — foreign currency endorsement of at least US$150 per applicant (not older than 3 months), or an updated bank statement, or an international credit/travel card
- 6Proof of profession — government order, employer certificate, trade registration, student ID or retirement papers
- 7Medical documents from your local doctor supporting the ailment, with reports
- 8Appointment letter from the Indian hospital naming the patient and attendant with passport details, the appointment date and the doctor
- 9A minor patient must be accompanied by a parent or guardian as medical attendant
- 10For organ transplant cases (kidney, liver, bone marrow): clearance from the Law Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The hospital invitation letter
Required. The hospital letter must name the patient and attendant with passport details, the appointment date and the doctor. The Ministry of Home Affairs format also asks for diagnosis, hospital and place, consultant's name and speciality, cost of treatment and duration, with an authorised signatory and contact details. Hospitals must email it to the mission's official address.

FRRO registration
Register with the FRRO/FRO within 14 days of arrival if your visa is valid for more than 180 days. In addition, Bangladeshi nationals staying continuously for more than six months must register and obtain a residential permit within 14 days. Children under 12 are exempt.
Land crossings are limited to two check posts
Under the Ministry of Home Affairs rules for Bangladesh nationals, entry and exit port restrictions do not apply at 24 named international airports but at only 2 land check posts — Haridaspur and Gede. Leaving through a different check post than you entered requires evidence of prior intimation.
